The Pink Week Parade, Sacramento, California 2017
Pink Week was a festival, art show, and parade created in the spirit of liberating the color pink from all meaning. I was asked to photograph the procession of Pink-Weekers as they paraded to the art show in their pink finery. I shot film on my Olympus Stylus epic and when I ran out of film I used my iPhone. Though the last year of Pink Week passed in 2018, Gioia and co-founder Erwo wrote on the organization’s website: “Rest assured, we will always and forever be fighting the good fight to let pink (and all other colors) sometimes just be colors. We encourage you to do the same. Pink on! Remember always, it's a color, not a cause.”
