Hi! This is Emma. My whole name is Emma Maile Shore Norman. I was born in 1988 in Honolulu, HI, and grew up in Washington D.C. and Vermont. I now live in San Francisco. I explore narrative, memory, historicity, queer representation, and everyday life and am especially drawn to my own friends and loved ones as subjects. Thank you for spending time with my work <3
I received a Masters in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2017. I have shown work in solo exhibitions and group shows in Vermont, Sacramento, and San Francisco. I’ve been an artist in residence at the Vermont Studio Center and participated in the 2021 National Queer Arts Festival as a San Francisco Queer Cultural Center Emerging Artist. I’ve had photographs featured in publications such as Bomb Magazine, National Geographic Books, the New York Times and the Washington Post.
